WHO WE ARE

A little about myself and the program:

I am a dual certified Special Education/English K-12 educator. I have worked in public education since 2007 when I began substitute teaching and then transitioned into being a special education paraprofessional and eventually to my own basic skills classroom.

I have recently been fingerprinted for my NPI certificate. I am also CPR, A.E.D and Heimlich certified.

I left the public education system in 2020 because of its obvious flaws and began to imagine what an alternative to traditional education would look like.

I had my son in 2021 and began researching homeschooling/POD education and what I found was a community of amazing creative thinkers who had built a village of support via co-op and pod schooling. What I was unable to find was an alternative that allowed for working/busy parents to still home school but receive additional support through a program the could provide daily rigor, socialization for their children.

The Hummingbird Academy approach allows for a small group, technology free program, using hands on lessons, fostering back to basics style learning with tailor made lessons to reach all learners. An environment built to optimize learning while still allowing the parents to be the primary educator.

The Hummingbird Academy strives to be a source of support, socialization, and community to families choosing to homeschool or alternative school their children.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Learning is natural

Young children have lively minds from the start. We strive to make the most of this natural quality by enabling them to experience, investigate, care about others, interact, develop and create. We strive to deepen and strengthen children’s natural abilities by providing them with the healthiest environment possible.

OUR CLASSROOMS

Our facilities provide children with everything they need to prosper, imagine and create. The space is equipped with large windows overlooking Budd Lake and will provide lovely natural light. In addition to a classroom built for student lead learning we will also have some classic earmarks of early education classrooms.
